Short-Term Opportunity in Lebanon

Apple Storage in Controlled Atmosphere

Jorge Luis Alonso · 01-02-2010

If you are interested in volunteering in Lebanon for two weeks this winter, please read the following letter from Diane Bruns, Land O’Lakes:

I work at Land O'Lakes in the International Development Division as a recruiter for the USAID-funded Farmer-to-Farmer program. Land O'Lakes has implemented the program for over 20 years and this year our focus is on the Middle East and West and North Africa. The program relies on the expertise of volunteers from U.S. farms, land grant universities, cooperatives, private agribusinesses, and nonprofit farm organizations to respond to the local needs of host-country farmers and organizations.

In general, volunteers donate their time and expertise over a two- to three-week period in exchange for airfare, lodging, meals, accident and health insurance, and an interpreter. The overseas assignments provide a unique opportunity to realize personal and professional growth, as well as to have an impact on an entire community in need.

Currently, I am searching for an expert in apple storage in controlled atmosphere to assist a company in Lebanon improve its quality of the apples stored and extend the supply from Lebanese apples for the local and export market. The project is scheduled for any two-week period in the first quarter of 2010.

If this is an opportunity that you would be interested in or could recommend others who may have an interest, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Any leads you can provide are appreciated!

Thank you and best regards,
