CO.N.I.P., the Italian National Plastic Packaging Consortium, implements a closed loop system in which the collection and recycling of plastic crates and pallets generate secondary raw material used in the internal production process.
The Consortium is voluntary and was formed in 1998 thanks to the Ronchi decree, obtained authorization from the Environment Ministry to manage its own packaging.
Its aim is to reduce environmental impact by recycling its own polyolefine secondary and tertiary rigid packaging waste.
To carry out CO.N.I.P. activity, a model is applied that satisfies four fundamental principles:
- Sharing Responsibility,
- The Polluter Pays,
- Prevention, and
- Recycling instead of disposing.
These principles are applied to a “closed loop system” where the main actors of the crate and pallet supply chain work in synergy.
