The “Apple day” at Klein-Altendorf, Germany, August 2018, focussed on sustainable fruit growing. A&P Service a Jork, North Germany based company, demonstrated ways in which apples and other fruits and vegetables can be packed in small packages without using plastic.
Consumers and packers would much rather get rid of plastic packaging, and the legislation and supermarkets try to help.
Wouter van Teeffelen explains that the patented machine rolls a kind of paper band round the packaging, which has all the important information printed on it. Packaging and cover are 100% recyclable. A slightly simpler device that makes it possible to label products manually is still under development.
