Citrosol will have a prominent presence in the new Insights Stage format at Fruit Logistica 2026, with a presentation delivered by Dr. Martín Mottura entitled “Technologies to reduce food losses in avocados” (Insights Stage, 4 February, 12:30 p.m., F60, Hall 21). During this session, the Citrosol expert will provide a comprehensive overview of how applied innovation can transform the postharvest management of this highly valued fruit. In this edition of Fruit Logistica, Citrosol places the spotlight on avocado preservation, presenting two innovative solutions that significantly extend the fruit’s commercial life, improve quality, and reduce losses throughout the supply chain.

During his presentation at the Insights Stage, Dr. Mottura will introduce two complementary postharvest technologies for avocado preservation: the Citrocide® Avo System, an organic hygienic washing system designed for the effective control of stem-end rot and improved food safety management; and PlantSeal® Tropicals, a plant-based coating developed to reduce weight loss and pulp necrosis associated with chilling injury.

Dr. Martín Mottura highlights that “PlantSeal® Tropicals coating reduces avocado weight loss by up to 35% throughout the distribution chain, while also decreasing pulp necrosis caused by chilling injury by more than 80%, which has a direct impact on reducing food losses.” This advance makes it possible to minimise claims and extend commercial life during storage and transport.

The presentation will also include real industrial results from export packing facilities in Peru, demonstrating the performance of the Citrocide® Avo System under commercial operating conditions. In addition, results from independent trials conducted by IVIA (Valencia, Spain) will be presented, confirming that PlantSeal® Tropicals significantly reduces chilling injury, helping to preserve internal fruit quality and minimise pulp necrosis during prolonged cold storage.

Citrosol solutions for avocado

Citrocide® Avo System, an organic hygienic washing system designed for the effective control of stem-end rot and improved food safety in avocado. With efficacy levels exceeding 90%, it is positioned as a sustainable alternative to fungicides, leaving no residues and certified for organic agriculture.

PlantSeal® Tropicals

A plant-based coating that protects avocados against dehydration and chilling injury during storage and transport, reducing internal browning by up to 84% and extending shelf life. Certified with the V-Label vegan seal, it contributes to reducing claims and food waste.
