Once again, Citrosol returns from Berlin with very good feelings. This year, the technical presentation by Dr. Martín Mottura in the new Insights Stage format established itself as a powerful attraction point for highly qualified professionals, generating a constant flow of visitors to the Citrosol stand before and after the talk.
The presentation acted as a catalyst for commercial and technical meetings, reinforcing the value of the format as a real tool for connection between innovation and the market.
Avocado, the protagonist, during his presentation, Dr. Martín Mottura presented the results of industrial shipments of avocado from Peru to Spain with PlantSeal® Tropicals. In these trials, the following was demonstrated:
As Dr. Mottura explained, this saving has a direct economic impact, by reducing losses at origin and claims at destination, improving the profitability and competitiveness of operators.
The results obtained with a technology that is already fully implemented by operators in Colombia and Peru were also shown: the Citrocide® Avo System, which has demonstrated radical control of stem-end mold, strongly improving wash sanitation, reducing losses and claims at destination. Citrosol’s CEO, Jorge Bretó, подчеркнул during the trade fair:
“With these solutions we provide real value to operators. Technologies such as the Citrocide® Avo System, already implemented in countries such as Peru, Chile and Colombia, have represented a radical improvement in avocado exports. From these origins, more than 200,000 tons treated with this technology are exported, reducing the incidence of stem-end mold without using synthetic fungicides.”

In addition, at its stand, Citrosol presented GREENFOGAS, a green-chemistry fumigant treatment applicable in chambers and containers without the need for additional equipment. This technology is highly effective against fungi that cause rots and stem-end mold, helping to reduce claims and improve quality stability at destination.
Its active ingredient, a green-chemistry compound, is approved for the treatment of fresh citrus in the European Union and has GRAS status from the U.S. FDA, reinforcing its safety and sustainability profile. The demonstration carried out at the stand sparked notable interest among operators seeking efficient and sustainable alternatives to conventional treatments.
The combination of presence on the Insights Stage and having its own stand allowed Citrosol to strengthen its international positioning as a technological partner specialized in postharvest solutions for avocado. The Berlin trade fair thus consolidated itself as a key point to strengthen relationships, open new commercial opportunities and confirm Citrosol’s leadership in reducing food waste in fresh fruits and vegetables.
Although founded in 1964 as Productos Citrosol, S.A., the postharvest treatments and technology activity began in the 1960s within Electroquímica del Serpis, S.A., both in Potries, Valencia. As a result of significant organic growth over the last 10–15 years, Citrosol currently has 136 employees, 12 of them based in various countries and in its subsidiaries in South Africa, Peru and Uruguay, and its own staff in Egypt. At its facilities in Potries, the company has an R&D&i laboratory and a pilot plant of a little over 1,200 m². Its organic growth has been largely due to its strong innovative character, having received the CEPYME Innovation Award in 2015 and 2020 and the Innovation in Business Award 2020 from the Valencia Chamber of Commerce.
Citrosol was born as a specialist in postharvest treatments and technology for citrus, but for more than 10 years now, as a result of its R&D&i work, it has been developing solutions to extend the commercial life of avocados, peppers, tomatoes, peeled garlic and other fruits and vegetables.
Citrosol is currently implementing in the market its solution for fresh-cut (IV range), the Citrocide® Fresh-Cut System, with which the water and carbon footprint in the production of fresh-cut fruit and vegetables is considerably reduced. With all its treatments and technologies, Citrosol contributes enormously to reducing losses and food waste in fresh fruits and vegetables
