Efficient preservation of fruits and vegetables requires systems capable of meeting the specific needs of each product as well as the sector's evolving energy and environmental requirements.
Against this backdrop, Ilerfred develops refrigeration, pre-cooling, and controlled-atmosphere solutions designed to maintain fresh produce quality, optimize facility operations, and extend shelf life.
The energy transition and evolving environmental regulations are driving the use of natural refrigerants in industrial facilities. Ammonia, carbon dioxide, and propane offer high energy efficiency and a lower environmental impact.
The choice of system will depend on the product, the type of facility, and the specific needs of each company. Proper design enables improved equipment performance and progress toward more sustainable facilities.
Controlled atmosphere regulates the air composition inside airtight chambers by reducing oxygen levels and increasing carbon dioxide in a controlled manner. This process slows down ripening and senescence, helping to preserve the quality of fresh produce for longer periods.
This technology is particularly effective for fruits such as apples, kiwis, pears, and blueberries. To achieve optimal results, the chambers must be properly sealed and equipped with precision sensors and control systems capable of maintaining the established conditions.
Ilerfred’s expertise in artificial ripening technologies also extends to the academic sphere. Laia Torregrosa, the company’s R&D&i Director, participated as a guest lecturer in an international diploma program at the University of Chile.
During the session, she addressed the role of ethylene and the control of temperature, humidity, ventilation, and gas concentrations during fruit ripening. She also presented material regarding ripening chambers, monitoring, and automation aimed at improving quality and reducing post-harvest losses.
Once again, Industrial Leridana del Frío SL -ILERFRED will participate in Fruit Attraction 2026, taking place from October 6 to 8 at IFEMA Madrid. The company will be located in Hall 10, Stand 10F20, where it will showcase its industrial refrigeration, pre-cooling, and controlled atmosphere solutions.
During the event, Ilerfred will meet with professionals interested in optimizing their refrigeration facilities and improving the preservation of fruit and vegetables throughout the post-harvest chain.
