Paclife and Sanifruit cement a strategic alliance for sustainable post-harvest preservation

Paclife and Sanifruit team up to combine active MAP packaging and natural coatings to extend export fruit shelf life

The integration of complementary technologies in the post-harvest sector continues to gain momentum, aiming to extend fruit shelf life and optimize global export supply chains. Against this backdrop, Paclife and Sanifruit have forged a technological partnership combining active modified-atmosphere packaging with naturally derived solutions and treatments. This collaboration seeks to provide comprehensive, synthetic-chemical-free protection for fresh fruit shipments between Latin America and Europe.

Technological synergy between modified atmosphere packaging and natural solutions

This strategic collaboration addresses the challenges of biological deterioration, dehydration, and loss of firmness by combining two key technological approaches:

  • Paclife’s active and MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) solutions: Smart packaging designed to regulate gas exchange (O₂ and CO₂), control excess internal moisture, and maintain fruit quality during long-haul sea shipments.
  • Sanifruit’s biodegradable treatments and coatings: Sanifruit has over 35 years of experience in developing post-harvest solutions. Its natural formulations and biological solutions are designed to control post-harvest pathogens and delay dehydration without leaving phytosanitary residues on the fruit surface. According to the company, these treatments help reduce dehydration, weight loss, and chilling injury, while preserving the organoleptic qualities of fresh produce. Its R&D&i activities focus on developing alternatives that extend the fruit's commercial shelf life without adding phytosanitary residues.

 

Quality Optimization and Loss Reduction in Exports

The combined use of both technologies maximizes cold storage effectiveness and reduces losses caused by decay or softening during transit. This combined strategy enables packing facilities to meet the strict Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) required by EU and international markets, ensuring the fruit arrives with superior standards of freshness and market appeal.
