Sakata Seed Ibérica participated in the latest edition of Fruit Attraction, held October 6–8 at IFEMA Madrid, where it focused on retail needs and new consumer demands.

During the trade show, the company presented various plant breeding solutions designed to offer products with greater added value. Tomatoes and peanut squash were the stars of Sakata’s lineup, with varieties aimed at addressing challenges such as the demand for better flavor, new formats, shelf differentiation, and longer postharvest life.

In tomatoes, Japi®, Saiko Star F1, and Chocostar F1 demonstrated different ways to add value to a constantly evolving category. Japi®, Sakata’s new gourmet tomato, stands out for its characteristic green core—rich in glutamic acid—and a flavor profile that combines umami flavor resulting from the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity.

Alongside it, Saiko Star F1 has stood out for combining flavor with a long post-harvest life, while Chocostar F1—a pear-shaped brown cherry tomato—combines visual appeal, flavor, and productivity.

In the squash category, Sakata has emphasized the importance of having a domestic production offering capable of supplying the market year-round, supported by varieties with a long post-harvest life. In this context, Love Klabaza had its own dedicated space within the booth, engaging peanut squash growers from Spain and Portugal and showcasing a product offering tailored to the needs of the distribution sector.

For its part, Bimi® was also present at the Sakata booth, highlighting the exponential growth it is experiencing in Europe and the rising demand for this innovative vegetable from consumers and markets alike.

Through its participation in Fruit Attraction 2026, Sakata has reinforced an approach to plant breeding that is grounded in the real needs of the value chain, developing varieties that provide solutions for growers, distributors, and end consumers alike.
