Xeda Ibérica is focusing on adapting fruit and vegetable labelling to the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). In its latest LinkedIn posts, the company points out that the regulatory changes will also affect adhesive labels applied directly to fruit and vegetables, and encourages industry operators to prepare in advance for the new requirements.

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 establishes that, by 12 February 2028, adhesive labels applied to fruit and vegetables must be compatible with composting standards for controlled industrial facilities. It also provides for compatibility with home composting where required by Member States.

Labelling and sustainability in the fruit and vegetable supply chain

Adapting to these requirements involves reviewing label materials, adhesives and certifications, while also considering aspects such as product identification, commercial presentation and correct application on packaging lines.

Xeda Ibérica states that it already offers certified labels and highlights its Euro-label 06 range as part of its proposal to help companies prepare for the changes. The company also invites industry professionals to ask questions about compostability, material characteristics and the potential implications for labelling costs.

The distinction between industrial and home compostability is an important factor to consider, as treatment conditions and applicable requirements are not necessarily the same.

Preparing for regulatory changes

Xeda Ibérica’s post is aimed at growers, fruit and vegetable packing facilities, and packaging companies that will need to review their labelling solutions in the coming years. Choosing suitable materials and checking their certifications can help businesses prepare their operations before the regulatory deadline.

Through this communication, the company reinforces its commitment to labelling solutions for fruit and vegetables and to helping the sector adapt to the new European packaging requirements.
