The PPWR establishes compostability requirements for adhesive labels applied to fruit and vegetables, effective from 2028. The company will showcase its Euro-label 06 range and labeling solutions in Madrid.
Adapting to the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) also draws attention to a small yet common element in fruit marketing: the adhesive label. Xeda Ibérica highlights that it already offers certified labels for fruit and encourages operators to get ahead of the upcoming regulatory changes.
Article 9 of Regulation (EU) 2025/40 stipulates that, by February 12, 2028, at the latest, adhesive labels applied to fruit and vegetables must be compatible with standards for composting under controlled industrial conditions. They must also comply with home composting standards where required by Member States. Consult the regulation.
Among the solutions by the company XEDA is Euro-label 06, featuring eco-friendly adhesive, bio-based materials, and DIN CERTCO certification for home composting. The distinction between home and industrial composting is significant: the regulation establishes compatibility with industrial treatment as the benchmark while allowing for home composting where required by individual Member States.

The company’s commercial offering covers both labels for fruit and vegetables and the equipment used to apply them. Xeda Ibérica will showcase its solutions at Fruit Attraction in Hall 10, Stand 10F26A from October 6 to 8. The event offers professionals the opportunity to explore the labeling range and discuss adapting materials and processes to the specific needs of each production line.
The trade fair takes place at a time when operators need to review formats, adhesives, and certifications well in advance of upcoming PPWR deadlines. For fruit and vegetable packing facilities, the choice involves considering the label's end-of-life alongside identification, presentation, and efficient application to the fruit.
