The disinfection of surfaces, equipment, and facilities is crucial for safeguarding food safety and organoleptic quality against pathogenic and altering microorganisms, such as Listeria, Salmonella, or fungi. That is why UCE MACHINES presents its brochure for its disinfection solution: its FIP system.

 

Fog In Place Technology Explained

The FIP (Fog In Place) system is ideal for industrial airborne disinfection, as it breaks down the biocide into microparticles smaller than 1 micron in the form of a dry fog—unlike other methods that spray the biocide, wetting the surfaces to be treated.

It behaves like a gas, filling the room where the FIP system is installed and completely covering all surfaces, whether accessible or inaccessible. It does not require the removal of equipment or the covering of surfaces. This technology offers advantages over manual or liquid cleaning, which is typically unable to reach the most hidden corners of a facility or machinery, is labor-intensive, and may not be fully effective due to human error.

FIP fogging is completely uniform in terms of its biocide concentration, ensuring that all surfaces it comes into contact with are disinfected equally, eliminating any weak spots in the treatment.
Furthermore, it is a dry fog, making it ideal for disinfecting items sensitive to condensation, such as electronic equipment, machine interiors, silos, or ventilation ducts. The absence of residue and moisture allows for a rapid return to normal operations, as no time is wasted rinsing or drying the disinfected surfaces, thereby reducing the downtime of the production process.

The FIP system is compatible with a wide range of disinfection technologies, such as VHP (hydrogen peroxide vapor), tertiary amines, and peracetic acid. With a 10-liter container of 5% disinfectant, 1,000 cubic meters can be disinfected in just half an hour.

 

Integrated Smart Control and Microbiological Monitoring

The FIP system is equipped with smart control, allowing it to be managed either directly from the machine itself or via the available mobile app. This enables remote monitoring of the process status, in addition to providing a dedicated server for activity logging and cycle scheduling. Consequently, the FIP machine operates fully automatically, eliminating the possibility of errors and the need for manual intervention.

UCE MACHINES also provides a comprehensive microbiological monitoring service before and after treatment with the FIP system to ensure the effectiveness of the disinfection. The team will collect samples from critical points in the facility prior to disinfection. This sampling will reveal the initial microbial load, establishing a reliable baseline for subsequent comparisons. Following FIP disinfection, the locations sampled prior to treatment will be sampled again.

Both sets of samples will be sent to a laboratory for comparative analysis, as well as to verify the elimination of microorganisms and certify that the disinfection was carried out correctly.
