TOMRA Food introduces the TOMRA 4C with LUCAi™, a groundbreaking optical sorter designed to improve detection, accuracy, throughput, efficiency and flexibility in the nuts and IQF frozen products industries.
Harald Henriksen, Executive Vice President and Head of TOMRA Food, explains:
“The TOMRA 4C will enable more producers, processors and re-packers to benefit from the advances that artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning bring to the food industry. These combined technologies enhance the detection of foreign materials and product and color defects, ensuring greater food safety and consistency between batches and shifts while optimizing resource use and production.”
The TOMRA 4C is TOMRA’s first machine that allows processors to run LUCAi™ Deep Learning and traditional machine learning simultaneously, offering unprecedented adaptability and new performance opportunities. This enables customers to respond quickly to changing operational needs and maintain consistency even when product conditions vary, setting a new standard in the nuts industry.
The technological innovation of the TOMRA 4C is built on the precision of TOMRA’s channel-based sorting machines.
Kristof Franckx, Product Manager for the TOMRA 4C, explains:
“The TOMRA 4C delivers significant performance improvements, with a false reject rate below 1% for nuts and <0.5% for IQF. This is possible thanks to TOMRA’s engineering excellence combined with AI-driven processing and next-generation pulsed LED sensors. Most importantly, its day-to-day ease of use helps operators save time and keep the sorting line running at maximum speed.”
The TOMRA 4C is delivered preconfigured and ready to integrate into new or existing lines, offering unmatched flexibility in the use of artificial intelligence.
The launch of the TOMRA 4C adds to a series of innovations presented by TOMRA Food in 2025.
Sustained growth at TOMRA Food has been key to driving the TOMRA Group globally. In 2024, orders increased by 13%, and in Q2 2025 revenue grew by 15%, reflecting strong demand for advanced technological solutions in the food industry. This context has accelerated the development of innovations such as the TOMRA 4C, aligned with customers’ specific needs.
LUCAi™, first launched in 2018, is already available for apples, blueberries, cherries and citrus, and has surpassed 3,500 lines sold worldwide. New LUCAi applications are under development for release in 2025 and 2026.
TOMRA Food invites all professionals in the nuts sector to see the TOMRA 4C in action during the Demo Week at its office in Valencia (Massanassa).
It will be a unique opportunity to see up close how artificial intelligence applied to optical sorting can transform production processes. During the Demo Week, attendees will watch live demonstrations, resolve technical questions with specialists and learn about real success stories.
The sessions will take place from October 27 to 31, 2025. Places are limited and prior registration is required. For more information, you can contact Daniel Jorda, Area Sales Manager Spain & Portugal, at daniel.jorda@tomra.com or +34 600 719 692.
