Headquartered in the Netherlands, Fresh Produce Instruments (FPI) will present its portfolio of ripening, quality control, and postharvest solutions at Fruit Logistica in Berlin (Hall 1.2, Stand D-40). The company focuses on technologies that help produce businesses achieve more consistent ripening, reduce waste, and extend shelf life.

Ripening solutions

Among the solutions on display are catalytic ethylene generation systems supplied by FPI’s long-term partner, Catalytic Generators. These systems safely produce ethylene directly in the ripening room, providing uniform results while minimizing the risks associated with storing or handling compressed gas. One generator can typically serve rooms from 57 m³ up to 300 m³, and in well-sealed spaces even larger volumes. Their compact and lightweight design allows generators to be easily moved between rooms, letting facilities operate with fewer units than the total number of chambers. This flexibility makes the system suitable for businesses of all sizes, from small ripening operations to large distribution centers, and allows companies to expand capacity step by step as demand grows. Controlled ethylene application encourages the fruit’s natural maturation process, helping produce reach uniform color and readiness, which is particularly important for bananas and avocados.

Quality measurement instruments

In addition to ripening systems, FPI will showcase a range of quality measurement instruments, giving producers and distributors tools to make informed decisions about fruit handling and marketing.

  • Felix Instruments will be represented by the F-751 avo, which measures dry matter in avocados within seconds. This allows growers and packers to assess fruit maturity without cutting it, ensuring consistent quality and optimal timing for harvest and distribution. Visitors can test the F-751 themselves and see how quickly it provides reliable results.
  • Sunforest will showcase the H-100C, designed to quickly and non-destructively assess avocado maturity. Using the H-100C helps operators reduce waste, optimize storage, and ensure avocados reach consumers at peak ripeness. Demonstrations at the stand will allow attendees to see the device in action and experience its practical benefits in daily ripening operations.
  • With non-destructive firmness testers, QC specialists can instantly assess the ripeness and texture of berries, supporting smarter sorting, better storage, and longer shelf life. Visitors can experience the ease of use firsthand at the stand.

For logistics and storage environments, FPI will showcase Airocide®, originally developed for NASA, as well as Jupitair, an alternative solution from a European manufacturer. Both technologies eliminate airborne pathogens, excess ethylene, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), supporting mold control, minimizing cross-contamination, and improving shelf life.
