Tray2Tray Project: the Infinity r-evolution

We have the courage to admit that plastic is a renewable resource, that must never be wasted. INFIA bases its work on this concept to design sustainable products for a truly circular economy. Plastic packaging is precious, its design must be based on ?Design for Environment? principles to make use of our competitive edge on the market in both an economically and environmentally sustainable way. Historically, our main source of recycled material (R-PET) was bottle fragments, but in recent years the demand - and therefore the cost - of this material has increased dramatically. Since more and more producers have started using R-PET, there is a reduction in the supply that will continue also in the near future.

We have the courage to admit that plastic is a renewable resource, that must never be wasted. INFIA bases its work on this concept to design sustainable products for a truly circular economy. Plastic packaging is precious, its design must be based on “Design for Environment” principles to make use of our competitive edge on the market in both an economically and environmentally sustainable way. Historically, our main source of recycled material (R-PET) was bottle fragments, but in recent years the demand - and therefore the cost - of this material has increased dramatically. Since more and more producers have started using R-PET, there is a reduction in the supply that will continue also in the near future. Based on these issues, always true to the “design for recycling” and “design for environment” principles, we established the Tray-to-Tray (T2T) project, aimed at diversifying our sources of recycled material and at the same time “closing the circle”: by using not only post-consumer bottle fragments but also post-consumer tray fragments. With this is mind, our single-material products can be recycled indefinitely, also including bottles, and they can be re-used to produce new products with a high added value, thus avoiding their ending up in the environment. We are working with various partners throughout the production chain to improve the quality and increase the availability of R-PET made from trays. This goal is reached mainly by starting from the correct design of the tray itself. The Tray2Tray system by Infia transforms plastic into post-consumer food trays indefinitely to create new trays. Recycled trays made from other trays, minimal impact, maximum results: if it’s opaque it’s transparent, clear, right?
