AgroFresh announces that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has granted exceptional authorization for the marketing and use of Harvista™, a solution based on 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) 17.15 g/L [SC], for preharvest application as a growth regulator on apples and pears. The authorization will be valid from July 1 to October 27, 2025, exclusively in the autonomous communities of Catalunya, Aragón and Castilla y León.
This measure, promoted and requested by growers' associations in the context of climate change and its impact on accelerated fruit ripening, will allow producers to apply Harvista™ to delay ripening and reduce premature fruit drop. As a result, fruit can remain on the tree longer, making harvest planning easier and helping improve fruit quality and postharvest preservation.
Harvista™ is a growth regulator developed by AgroFresh that acts directly on ethylene production in the fruit, slowing down ripening and maintaining firmness. Its preharvest application helps improve commercial yield and facilitates the planning of staggered harvests, with benefits in logistics and storage.
The use of Harvista™ must be carried out under the supervision of the competent regional authorities and in accordance with the product label.
With this authorization, AgroFresh reinforces its commitment to local fruit growers and to the development of tools that support sustainable, efficient production focused on improving fruit quality all the way to the end consumer. Harvista™ is thus consolidated as a key ally in addressing the challenges of climate change and increasing market demands.
