At Agrofresh, everyone knows that, following the hard work of sowing, tending the crops and harvesting, the most critical moments for fruit quality lie ahead: the post-harvest stage. That is why Agrofresh brought its range of post-harvest solutions to Fruit Attraction: to safeguard the quality of its customers’ fruit.

Among the solutions on display were edible coatings, such as VitaFresh Botanicals, Natural Shine and Semperfresh. The VitaFresh Botanicals coating, for example, comprises a wide range of edible coatings designed to maintain the organoleptic and microbiological quality of fruit for longer, thereby extending its shelf life. They are based on plant extracts and leave no taste or odour, making them an attractive prospect for producers who wish to ensure that the consumer’s sensory experience remains unaffected.

In addition to coatings, the company also showcased its digital solutions, such as Strella and SmartFresh, which enable the monitoring of various aspects of the product throughout its post-harvest life, ensuring it is always kept in optimal environmental conditions for preservation and ripening. Strella is a prime example of these technologies: it is a set of sensors that monitor levels of ethylene, CO₂, O₂ and humidity (as well as temperature) – key factors in controlling fruit ripening and microbiological development.

At Fruit Attraction, AgroFresh not only showcased solutions for fruit coatings and quality monitoring, but also various smart packaging systems tailor-made for different crops, such as Berrisys, Tomasys and Lichisys. These smart packaging solutions aim to extend the shelf life of the fruit, primarily by substantially limiting the growth of spoilage microorganisms or pathogens such as Botrytis cinerea.
Its technology is based on the biocidal effect of SO₂, which is incorporated into the packaging itself in the form of a laminated plastic capable of releasing sulphite in a controlled manner. In fact, AgroFresh offers producers a range of durations and formats for biocidal protection: from 12 to 70 days, depending on the product’s requirements, as well as a choice between recyclable and non-recyclable formats.
