Citrosol, a leading company in post-harvest solutions for fruits and vegetables, strengthens its presence and consolidates its growth strategy in Latin America with Citrosol Uruguay.
This subsidiary is the result of the integration of FOMESA and Brillocera Sudamericana under a single brand, whose origins date back to the alliance between Brillocera —later incorporated by FOMESA— and Enzur S.A., a project that laid the foundations for the current structure.
Jorge Bretó, CEO of Citrosol, stated:
“The creation of Citrosol Uruguay represents a strategic step to be closer to our customers, offering them specialized technical service and innovative solutions tailored to their needs. Moreover, this new office will allow us to enhance our service to nearby markets such as Brazil and Argentina.”
With its own technical service team that works directly with packinghouses, the subsidiary strengthens its proximity to the sector, improving response capacity and after-sales support. On this foundation, Citrosol Uruguay also consolidates itself as a platform for the introduction of new post-harvest technologies and advanced control systems, which will help Uruguayan exporters reach markets with lower losses and superior quality. Many of these solutions are already successfully applied in Chile and Peru and are now available to the Uruguayan market. Among them are tools for wax application control and fungicide dosing, designed to optimize efficiency and technical monitoring of treatments.
Gerónimo Fernández, Technical-Commercial Manager, stated:
“Through Citrosol Uruguay we will be much closer to our customers, understanding their challenges and offering them specialized technical service, as well as close monitoring of their post-harvest treatments.”
With this new stage in Uruguay, Citrosol reaffirms its commitment to the development of the fruit and vegetable sector in the region, promoting innovation and service as the pillars of its international growth.
Although founded in 1964 as Productos Citrosol, S.A., the company’s activity in post-harvest treatments and technology began in the 1960s within Electroquímica del Serpis, S.A., both located in Potries, Valencia.
As a result of significant organic growth over the past 10–15 years, Citrosol currently employs 136 people, 12 of whom are based in various countries and in its subsidiaries in South Africa, Peru, and Uruguay, with additional staff in Egypt.
At its Potries facilities, the company operates an R&D+i laboratory and a pilot plant covering over 1,200 m². Its organic growth has largely stemmed from its strong innovative character, having received the CEPYME Innovation Award in 2015 and 2020, as well as the Innovation in Business Award 2020 from the Valencia Chamber of Commerce.
Originally established as a specialist in post-harvest treatments and technology for citrus, Citrosol has, for over a decade, developed solutions through its R&D+i work to extend the commercial life of avocados, peppers, tomatoes, peeled garlic, and other fruits and vegetables.
Currently, Citrosol is introducing its Citrocide® Fresh-Cut System for the fresh-cut produce segment (IV range), which significantly reduces the water and carbon footprint in the production of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables.
Through all its treatments and technologies, Citrosol contributes greatly to reducing food loss and waste in fresh fruits and vegetables.
