GIRÓ places sustainability among the main pillars of its new corporate magazine, presented in the context of Fruit Logistica 2026. From the cover itself, the publication highlights this approach alongside the group’s developments in automation, machinery and packaging solutions for the fruit and vegetable sector.

In the opening pages of the magazine, the company develops this theme under the heading "Sustainable leadership with a strategic vision", explaining that it has completed the development of a sustainability strategy aligned with its corporate objectives and structured around three pillars linked to ESG dimensions: environmental, social and governance. According to the publication, this process has included the definition of strategic lines, aspirational goals and specific prioritized actions for implementation.

Sustainability linked to packaging, energy and circular economy

The magazine also underlines that, since joining the UN Global Compact, GIRÓ has aligned its strategies and operations with the ten universal principles promoted by the United Nations and has adopted measures linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Within this framework, the company connects its approach to innovation, regulatory adaptation and the strengthening of its position in the fruit and vegetable packaging sector.

On the environmental side, the publication places emphasis on product design based on circular economy principles and on several measures aimed at reducing the impact of its activity. These include packaging solutions starting from 1.8 grams of plastic per 1,000 grams of packed product, the progressive replacement of combustion vehicles, with 91% of its passenger car fleet already hybrid, and self-generation in its factories in Badalona, Ripoll, Teruel and Alzira, with a total installed surface area of 7,427 m².

The social dimension gains greater visibility in the group’s strategy

Alongside the environmental component, GIRÓ gives prominent space to the social dimension of its strategy. The magazine states that 95% of its workforce has permanent contracts and reports around 1,600 hours of training, in addition to more than 25 years of collaboration with social, cultural and medical research foundations and organizations. In the last year, this contribution reached 80,000 euros.

Among the recent actions most visibly highlighted by the company is its support for the Menuts school in Massanassa and the Bubo school in Catarroja, both affected by the DANA storm in the Valencia region. The collaboration included a joint financial contribution from both GIRÓ Group staff and the company itself, as well as the donation of artificial grass to refurbish the playground of the Bubo school. The publication also includes before-and-after images of this intervention.

With this edition, GIRÓ shifts part of the focus away from product innovation toward a broader view of its activity, in which sustainability, circular economy and commitment to people are presented as integrated elements of its proposal for the fruit and vegetable sector.
