At a time when large retail chains and end consumers are increasingly demanding more transparency and respect for the environment, Grupo Giró is once again ahead of the trend with a double commitment that combines innovation in packaging and production muscle. The company, with more than a century of experience supplying integral weighing, packaging and labelling solutions for fruit and vegetables, has presented an extension to its range of Girbio compostable nets together with the inauguration of a modern machinery plant in Alzira, Valencia. These measures consolidate its strategy ‘for a better planet’, based on lower impact packaging and increasingly efficient equipment.
The two new products come at a crucial time for the fruit and vegetable industry, marked by stricter European packaging regulations and pressure from retailers to reduce the carbon footprint of the entire supply chain. The Catalan group responds with a portfolio that ranges from certified biopolymer netting to high-precision weighing and automatic bagging systems, all backed by application engineering services and global technical assistance. In this way, Giró reinforces its position as a technological partner capable of accompanying operators in the transition towards circular economy models.
The Girbio line, so far available in beige, orange and lemon yellow, adds a fourth colour that responds to the demand for differentiation at the point of sale without sacrificing sustainability. All the nets have the industrial compostability certificate from TÜV Austria, which guarantees that the packaging, cord and label can be composted under controlled conditions, facilitating the circular economy. The new burgundy maintains the mechanical and visual performance that has established Girbio as one of the benchmark solutions for packaged fruit and vegetables, while offering supermarkets a premium aesthetic in line with the colour palettes of gourmet shelves.
Giró has inaugurated a 7800 square metre facility, compared to the 3500 square metres of its previous factory, dedicated to the manufacture of weighers, packaging machines and complementary equipment. Although the factory is not yet at full capacity, it represents a leap in modernity, efficiency and logistics that will enable it to deal more quickly with automation projects in fruit and vegetable plants. The new lines incorporate pick and place robots, laser welding stations and automatic warehouses that reduce delivery times and improve final quality.
With more than one hundred years of experience, Grupo Giró maintains its commitment to environmentally friendly solutions and customer service. The expansion of the Girbio catalogue and the new Valencian plant confirm that the company does not stop in its objective of offering packaging and machinery that combine technical performance and sustainability. The message is clear, Giró is looking to the future without forgetting its legacy and is positioned to lead the challenges of an increasingly demanding fruit and vegetable chain.
