Sormac has appointed Tys van Elk as its new managing director, succeeding Bert Haffmans, the company’s owner, who has served as managing director for more than two decades. Van Elk joined Sormac on 1 October 2026 and will officially take up the position on 31 December 2026. Over the coming months, the priority will be to ensure a smooth transition and familiarise himself with Sormac’s team, customers, partners and business operations.

Bert Haffmans has led Sormac for more than 23 years, during which time it has become one of the leading manufacturers of vegetable processing equipment, with a strong position in the international market and consistent, sustainable growth. After stepping down, he will remain closely involved with Sormac as an adviser and shareholder.

Tys van Elk brings extensive international management experience, with a particular focus on strategic planning, operational improvement and the development of new business areas. A mechanical engineer with an MBA from London Business School, he has held senior management and executive positions at companies including Océ/Canon and VDL.

Bert Haffmans adds: “I approach this new chapter with great confidence. Tys van Elk’s technical background, strategic vision and entrepreneurial spirit will help strengthen Sormac’s solid market position and drive its future as a successful family-owned business.”
