VDH Products renews the PROBA 5 user interface

VDH has introduced a redesigned user interface for its PROBA 5 ripening controller. Both the touchscreen interface and the graphical cell overview within VASP have been renewed, giving operators a clearer, more intuitive and consistent view of the complete ripening process.

PROBA has established itself as a benchmark in professional fruit ripening, combining reliable process control with practical functionality for ripening operators worldwide. With the renewed interface, VDH builds further on this foundation by making important process information even easier to understand and access.

The new interface was developed in collaboration with an HMI Designer (Human-Machine Interface Designer), with a strong focus on the daily working practices of operators. The aim was not simply to create a more modern appearance, but above all to make important process information easier to find and understand.

Important information at a glance

The main screen now provides a clearer overview of the current status of the ripening room. Important values such as control temperature, setpoint, ethylene (C2H4) and CO2 are prominently displayed.

When an automatic ripening program is active, the operator can also immediately see its current status and progress. Visual indications make it easier to recognise situations such as active control, gassing, ventilation, ULO operation, alarms or a cell that is not safe to enter.

More detailed information remains easily accessible when required. Operators can, for example, view the average control temperature per zone as well as detailed information from the individual sensors.

Renewed VASP cell overview

VDH has not only redesigned the local touchscreen. The graphical representation of the ripening cells within its VASP software has also been renewed.

Measured values, process information and the current status of each cell are presented more clearly. This makes it easier for operators to monitor multiple ripening rooms from one central location.

By aligning the touchscreen and VASP interfaces more closely, VDH Products has created a more consistent operating environment throughout the complete PROBA 5 system.

Mobile access with the VASP App

The VASP App gives operators access to important PROBA functions from their smartphone or tablet. Users can remotely adjust settings and receive push notifications when alarms occur.

This provides greater flexibility and helps operators stay informed about the status of their ripening rooms, even when they are away from the PROBA touchscreen or VASP workstation.

Designed for daily operation

The renewed interface is designed around the daily work of ripening operators. Functions and settings are grouped more logically, while sensor values, alarm messages and room status are easier to recognise at a glance.

Operators can quickly see what is happening inside the ripening room and access detailed information with fewer actions. The design also follows the current generation of VDH touchscreens, creating a consistent and familiar user experience across VDH systems.

Meet us at Fruit Attraction 2026

VDH will be visiting Fruit Attraction in Madrid from 6–8 October 2026. Jacco Smid will be present during the show and is available for meetings with PROBA customers, partners and other professionals in fruit ripening and storage. Would you like to meet during the exhibition? Please feel free to get in touch!
