ULMA Packaging has joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, launched in 2000 and currently bringing together more than 25,000 organisations in over 160 countries.
With this move, the company strengthens its commitment to aligning its corporate sustainability strategy with the Ten Principles of the Global Compact, covering human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.
The adhesion represents a further step in ULMA Packaging’s work to integrate sustainability into its activity from an environmental, social and governance perspective.
ULMA Packaging’s participation in the Global Compact is connected to its 2027-2030 Sustainability Strategic Plan, structured around six key ESG priorities.
These include the transition towards neutrality, the development of sustainable packaging solutions under the WeCare approach, talent management and development, health, safety and wellbeing, responsible supply chain management, and ethics, governance and good management.
Through these priorities, the company aims to strengthen its contribution to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including those related to responsible production and consumption, climate action, decent work, equality, health and wellbeing, partnerships and good governance.
This commitment is also reflected in the development of packaging solutions for the fruit and vegetable sector, where material reduction, process efficiency and adaptation to new market requirements are becoming increasingly important.
ULMA Packaging works on applications that enable the use of recyclable, compostable or paper-based materials, as well as solutions designed to reduce plastic use without compromising product protection, functionality or presentation.
In this area, the company has developed packaging solutions for fruit and vegetables using cardboard trays, compostable films and lower-impact materials, together with equipment designed to adapt to different formats and film thicknesses.
Sustainability is also closely linked to operational efficiency. ULMA Packaging incorporates intelligent tools to monitor air, gas, electricity and film consumption in real time, helping producers better understand the cost per pack and optimise resources across the packaging line.
These solutions also support centralised recipe management, faster format changes, error reduction and automatic reporting on performance, consumption, traceability and efficiency.
In this way, the company combines innovation in materials, digitalisation and process improvement to move towards more efficient packaging models aligned with the sustainability challenges of the sector.
ULMA Packaging also links this adhesion to its cooperative identity and to its commitment to generating employment, prosperity and development in its surrounding community.
The company highlights that part of the results of its business activity is returned to society through contributions to education, cooperative promotion and other purposes of public interest.
By joining the United Nations Global Compact, ULMA Packaging becomes part of a global network of companies committed to responsible business initiatives and to a more sustainable, inclusive and environmentally responsible business model.
