ULMA Packaging introduces Flex Set to simplify pressure adjustment in rotary jaw flow-pack machines
The system facilitates material changeovers and improves operational flexibility in rotary jaw flow-pack lines
ULMA Packaging has incorporated the Flex Set system into its flow-pack solutions, a development aimed at improving operability and flexibility in machines equipped with rotary jaws. The objective is to simplify jaw pressure adjustment, a key parameter for achieving reliable sealing when working with packaging materials of different thicknesses.
In many flow-pack lines with rotary jaws, pressure adjustment is carried out through manual mechanical systems. This process often requires the intervention of experienced personnel with specific knowledge of flow-pack equipment and can limit the machine’s ability to switch efficiently between materials with very different characteristics.
Flex Set simplifies the adjustment process
Flex Set addresses this limitation through a design that allows operators to act on the system via actuators integrated into the machine itself. This enables jaw pressure to be adjusted in a way that is:
- quick
- simple
- repeatable
- reliable
The adjustment can be carried out without special tools, without advanced mechanical or maintenance knowledge, and without dismantling any machine components.
In addition, the machine includes a dedicated HMI screen displaying recommended actuator values according to the thickness of the film being used. This supports more precise and repeatable settings during each material change.
Impact on operation and productivity
The incorporation of Flex Set in flow-pack machines allows greater flexibility to work with a wide range of materials, from thin plastic films to paper-based solutions. It also simplifies the operations required when changing materials and reduces adjustment times, making more frequent changeovers possible when the process demands it.
