Riverón is a retired Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology professor at the Mackenzie Presbyterian University in São Paulo. She holds a Teaching degree in Chemistry from the National Council of Education (Montevideo Uruguay). She is a Pharmaceutical Biochemist with a Master's and Doctorate in Microbiology from the University of São Paulo (Area: molecular genetics of microorganisms).

Her experience spans protein biochemistry (Butantan Institute, Brazil) and Molecular Genetics of microorganisms, focusing on bacterial resistance to antibiotics and microorganisms of biotechnological interest. These research lines were developed at the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology and Virology of the Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS) at UPM.
